The success of Apple’s iPhone is beyond doubt. A study has brought to light thanks to sales in the third quarter of the year, the company has managed to place second in the sales of smartphones, only behind Nokia, which still continues to lead by far.
The company itself has gone apple RIM, maker of BlackBerry, and Motorola, which is currently promoting the development of touchscreen terminals. Apple’s operating system is also the second most common after Symbian.
A study by Canalys shows that globally the mobile phone market is changing. The smartphones, which combine the functionality of a PC and a phone, have become the horse pulling the chariot of the mobile phone and terminal “normal” just grow.
The fastest growing
Sales of smart phones with Internet and email, among other things, increased 28% last quarter over the same period last year, while the mobile phone did only 3%.
These dizzying figures led the Nokia, which sold a whopping 15,485,630 terminals, which was a total of 38.9% of sales. Apple first reached RIM and put in second place with 6,809,010 units sold (17.3% of sales).
According to the study, the BlackBerry company won the bronze with 6,051,730 units (15.2%), followed by Motorola with 2,313,930 (5.8%). HTC, which manufactures terminals for other brands and launched the first mobile ‘software’ of Google, closes the ‘top 5′ with 2,308,210 (5.8%).
Improvements in the ‘software’
The success of the iPhone phone sales in the fourth quarter, following the launch of the 3G version have also been noted in the ‘software’ of the company within the market of smartphones.
The market during the last quarter was led by Symbian, with 46.6% of sales. Apple was second (17.3%) followed by RIM (15.2%), Microsoft (13.6%) and Linux (5.1%).
According to the study by Canalys, Apple’s second place could be short because of the reinforcement in the catalog of his opponents and the absence of announcements of new devices in this sector by the company on the block.
RIM will soon launch three new models of Blackberry-Bold, Storm and Pearl 8220 – Nokia and XpressMusic will start selling its 1 December 5800. Motorola, meanwhile, is trying to regain its dominant position with new touch screen models as the main attraction.
